VisitSenator John Fetterman to Become First Democratic Senator to Meet with President-elect Trump at Mar-a-Lago
Jan 9, 2025, 10:08 PM
Democratic U.S. Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has accepted an invitation from President-elect Donald Trump to meet at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. Fetterman will be the first sitting Democratic senator to meet with Trump since the 2024 election. In a statement, Fetterman said, "President Trump invited me to meet, and I accepted. I'm the senator for all Pennsylvanians—not just Democrats in Pennsylvania." He added, "I think it's pretty reasonable that if the President would like to have a conversation, or invite someone to have a conversation, to have it. And no one is my gatekeeper." Fetterman emphasized, "I am not just the senator for Democrats in Pennsylvania. I'm everyone's senator in Pennsylvania, and my state picked Donald Trump as president." When asked about his upcoming meeting, Fetterman joked, "I demand that I need to be made Pope of Greenland."
