VisitSecond Assassination Attempt on Trump: Ryan Wesley Routh Faces 20 Years
Sep 16, 2024, 05:45 PM
Former President Donald Trump was the target of a second assassination attempt on Sunday at the Trump International Golf Club. The suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, allegedly fired a rifle from bushes surrounding the golf club and was apprehended by Martin County Sheriff's deputies. Body cam footage of Routh's arrest has been released, showing him in good spirits during his first court appearance on Monday. Routh has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, facing up to 20 years in prison. President Joe Biden commended the Secret Service for their expert handling of the situation. The incident has prompted calls for increased security measures for Trump, with some suggesting private security in addition to Secret Service protection. Authorities are conducting four investigations into the incident, and it was revealed that Routh had been in the wooded area near the golf course for almost 12 hours.
