In recent tests in California, the U.S. Air Force showcased the capabilities of artificial intelligence in aerial combat, where an AI-controlled F-16 fighter jet competed against a human-piloted F-16. Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall, who personally observed the tests by riding along in the AI-powered F-16, highlighted the impressive performance of the AI, noting that it managed an even fight with the human pilot. Kendall further expressed a vision for the future where AI agents could potentially outperform humans in aerial warfare. The Air Force plans to deploy armed, automated aircraft by around 2030.
