VisitSEC Delays Decision on Spot Ethereum ETF Options to December, Including Cboe’s Proposal
Oct 12, 2024, 06:37 AM
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has delayed its decision on whether to approve options tied to spot Ethereum ETFs. Initially set for October 19, the deadline has been pushed to December 3, 2024. This extension affects several proposed Ethereum ETFs and follows a similar delay for options tied to Bitcoin ETFs. The SEC's decision to extend the review period is intended to provide additional time for evaluation. This delay includes Cboe’s proposal to allow options trading on Ethereum-based ETFs. Meanwhile, Bitcoin ETFs have seen significant inflows, with $12 billion reported, whereas Ethereum ETFs have experienced a negative flow of $546 million since their launch. Additionally, the SEC has given approval for Bitcoin options in BlackRock's spot BTC ETF for September.
