VisitScottie Scheffler Detained by Police, Charged with Assault Ahead of PGA Championship
May 17, 2024, 12:10 PM
World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was detained by Louisville Metro Police on Friday morning after a misunderstanding with traffic flow led him to attempt to drive past a police officer into Valhalla Golf Club. Scheffler, who was on his way to the second round of the PGA Championship, was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police car. The incident occurred following a traffic jam caused by a pedestrian fatality. Scheffler has been charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals. His mugshot has been released by the Louisville Metropolitan Department of Corrections. ESPN's Jeff Darlington reported the incident. Scheffler's tee time has been rescheduled to 10:08 AM, and it remains uncertain if he will be able to participate in the tournament.
