VisitSão Paulo Grand Prix Qualifying Postponed to Sunday Due to Heavy Rain and Lightning
Nov 2, 2024, 08:06 PM
Qualifying for the São Paulo Grand Prix at Interlagos has been postponed until Sunday due to heavy rainfall and lightning, resulting in unsafe track conditions. The FIA announced the decision after assessments showed lack of visibility and standing water on the circuit, rendering conditions unsafe for drivers. Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula One, confirmed the postponement as heavy rains continued to disrupt the schedule. The start time for qualifying will be announced as soon as possible, and if the session cannot take place, stewards will determine how to set the grid, as there is no provision in the regulations for this scenario. The last occurrence of a qualifying session delayed to race day was at the 2019 Japanese Grand Prix, when Typhoon Hagibis forced a similar rescheduling.
