Samsung Electronics' 8-layer HBM3E chips have successfully passed Nvidia's qualification tests for use in artificial intelligence (AI) processors, according to multiple sources. This development marks a significant milestone for Samsung, which is working to enhance its position in the high bandwidth memory (HBM) market, where it faces competition from SK Hynix. The approval by Nvidia is expected to lead to a supply agreement between Samsung and Nvidia by the end of the fourth quarter. This agreement could bolster Samsung's efforts to meet the growing demand for advanced GPUs driven by the generative AI boom. However, Samsung's 12-layer HBM3E chips have yet to clear Nvidia's qualification tests.
