This performance set an NHL record for the most saves made in a season-opening shutout. The only goal of the game was scored by Cole Caufield on a power play. The Maple Leafs dominated the game in 5v5 play and had 15-3 high danger chances, but were unable to score. This marks the first time the Maple Leafs have been shut out since November 21, 2021, ending their streak of 227 consecutive games without being blanked. The game was played at the Bell Centre, where Patrik Laine received a loud ovation from the fans before the match. It was the first game for the Maple Leafs under new coach Craig Berube.
