VisitRyan Wesley Routh Pleads Not Guilty to Attempted Assassination of Trump in Florida Court
Sep 30, 2024, 04:45 PM
Ryan Wesley Routh, the 58-year-old man charged with attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump, pleaded not guilty to multiple federal charges in a court appearance on Monday in West Palm Beach, Florida. Routh is accused of spending 12 hours camped outside Trump's Florida golf course on September 15 before being spotted by the Secret Service with a rifle. He faces five federal charges, including attempted assassination of a presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer, and three federal firearms charges. During his court appearance, Routh looked directly at reporters both when he entered and exited the courtroom. He has been ordered to remain in jail while awaiting trial and has requested a trial by jury. The case has been assigned to a judge appointed by Trump who previously dismissed criminal proceedings against the former president earlier this year. Routh's son, Oran Routh, is also due in court this week.
