VisitRyan Garcia Suspended for One Year, Haney Fight Overturned to No-Contest, Forfeits $1.1M
Jun 20, 2024, 09:58 PM
Ryan Garcia has announced his retirement from boxing following a series of events that led to his suspension. The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) has suspended Garcia for one year, retroactive to April, after he tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug ostarine. As a result, his April 20 victory over Devin Haney has been overturned to a no-contest, restoring Haney's undefeated record to 31-0. Garcia will also forfeit $1.1 million from his fight purse, pay a $10,000 fine, and undergo random drugs testing. Despite these penalties, Garcia stated he was already retired and plans to return after the suspension. Haney has also announced he will take a year off from boxing.
