Aug 31, 2024, 12:30 PM
A Russian Mi-8 helicopter carrying 22 people, including three crew members and 19 passengers, most of them tourists, went missing in the Kamchatka Peninsula on August 31, 2024. The helicopter, operated by Vityaz-Aero airline, was flying from a base near the Vachkazhets volcano to Nikolaevka village but lost communication and did not arrive at its destination. Search efforts were hampered by adverse weather conditions, including wind and rain. On September 1, the wreckage was discovered on a 900-meter-high hill near the last known contact point. Russian emergency services reported that there were no survivors among those on board.
