A civilian grain vessel carrying wheat from Ukraine to Egypt was struck by a Russian Kh-22 missile in the Black Sea, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The incident occurred near the mouth of the Danube River after the ship had exited Ukrainian territorial waters and was in Romania's exclusive economic zone. The vessel, identified as the MV Aya and operated by Turkish interests, was carrying 26,550 tons of grain. There were no casualties reported. The missile was launched from a Russian Tu-22M bomber. The attack has been condemned by various international entities, including the United Nations and the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, who described it as a violation of international law and a threat to global food security. Wheat futures surged by 2.2% following the news of the attack.
