VisitRussian Forces Attack Sumy Region, Leaving 300,000 Without Power
Sep 17, 2024, 07:48 AM
Russian forces have launched a series of attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, particularly targeting the northeastern Sumy region. According to local authorities, the assaults involved Shahed drones, guided bombs, and missiles, leading to significant damage. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that 80% of Ukraine's energy infrastructure has been destroyed. The attacks have left nearly 300,000 people without electricity in Sumy, disrupted water supply, and halted electric transport operations. Two power substations caught fire, causing power outages and communication disruptions. Water in the city of Sumy is being supplied at reduced pressure, and authorities have resorted to back-up power systems. Ukrainian air defense forces managed to shoot down 34 out of 51 drones launched overnight.
