VisitRussia's Record Shahed Drone Attacks Hit Kyiv, Fires and Injuries as 71 Drones Target City
Nov 2, 2024, 07:10 AM
Russia has launched a massive drone attack on Kyiv, deploying over 2,000 Shahed drones in October alone, marking a record number since the start of its full-scale invasion. The attacks have caused explosions, fires, and casualties as drones struck residential areas, including the Sviatoshynskyi district. Ukrainian air defense forces reported shooting down 39 of 71 drones on a single day, but some drones, flying at low altitudes, evaded defenses and caused significant damage. Fires broke out in multi-story buildings, and at least two civilians were injured. According to Ukrainian officials, Russia has launched a total of 6,987 drones against Ukraine since the beginning of the year, with an average of 699 drones per month. The increase in Shahed drone attacks has raised concerns about Russia's military strategy, and Ukrainian officials are calling for more air defense support.
