VisitRussia's Bicampeona Mundial Tatyana Tomashova Receives 10-Year Ban for 2012 Doping Violation
Sep 3, 2024, 06:40 PM
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has banned Russia's Tatyana Tomashova, a bicampeona mundial and double Olympic silver medalist, for 10 years after re-testing her samples from the 2012 London Olympics. This is Tomashova's second doping offense, following a previous two-year ban in 2008 for manipulating drug samples. The ban affects the results of the 2012 women's 1500-meter race, often referred to as the 'dirtiest race.' As a result, United States 1,500-meter runner Shannon Rowbury is set to receive a bronze medal, and British athlete Lisa Dobriskey, who originally finished 10th, has been elevated to 5th place.
