VisitRussia Ready to Negotiate Long-Term Peace on Ukraine with Trump, Seeks Cease Fire and End to Weapons Supply
Dec 29, 2024, 03:17 AM
Russia has expressed readiness to engage in negotiations with the incoming administration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to establish a long-term peace agreement concerning the Ukraine crisis. The Kremlin has indicated a desire for Trump to take the initiative in improving relations between Russia and the United States, following Trump's earlier statements about negotiating a deal to end the Russia-Ukraine War. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has emphasized that Moscow holds no illusions about an easy resolution to the crisis and is prepared to consider any serious and concrete proposals for peace. Lavrov also stated that any ceasefire discussions must address the root causes of the conflict and take into account the real situation on the ground. Furthermore, Lavrov criticized the discussions between Ukraine and Western countries about a potential ceasefire, suggesting it is a dead-end approach aimed at strengthening Ukraine's military capabilities for future attacks on Russia. Russia's conditions for resolving the conflict include demilitarization, denazification, and ensuring Ukraine's non-aligned, neutral, and non-nuclear status. Lavrov also mentioned that both the current and future U.S. administrations could stop the supply of weapons to Ukraine and order a cease fire.
