Dec 13, 2024, 09:30 AM
Russia launched a large-scale missile attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure on December 13, 2024, during the morning rush hour, targeting energy facilities across the country. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Russia fired 93 missiles, including Kalibr, Kinzhal, and Iskander ballistic missiles, and nearly 200 drones in one of the largest attacks on Ukraine's energy system. At least one missile was of North Korean origin. Ukrainian forces managed to intercept 81 missiles, including 11 cruise missiles shot down by F-16 jets, and shot down 80 drones. The attack caused significant damage to thermal power plants and other energy infrastructure, with energy company DTEK reporting that facilities were gravely damaged, leading to disruptions in power supply. The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed the scale of the attack, highlighting it as a massive strike on critical infrastructure.
