VisitRussia Deploys Six Tu-160 Bombers Transferred by Ukraine in 1999, Valued at $275 Million
Nov 27, 2024, 07:04 AM
An investigation has revealed that Russia is actively using Tu-160 strategic bombers originally transferred from Ukraine in 1999. This transfer was part of a deal to settle Ukraine's gas debt to Russia, which involved Ukraine handing over 11 bombers, 575 Kh-55 missiles, and other military equipment valued at approximately $275 million. Currently, at least six of these Tu-160 bombers are part of Russia's combat fleet. The findings were reported by the investigative team 'Schemes' from Radio Liberty, highlighting the implications of Ukraine's past disarmament decisions. Ukrainian intelligence chief Kirill Budanov commented on the situation, attributing the use of these bombers to corruption and lack of strategic foresight in Ukraine's military decisions.
