Ely, a Texas native, portrayed the iconic vine-swinging character from 1966 to 1968, passed away on September 29, 2024, at the Santa Barbara home of one of his daughters. His daughter confirmed the news in a statement but did not reveal the cause of death. Ely's career was marked by his portrayal of Tarzan, a role that left him physically worn out due to numerous injuries. He also starred as Clark Savage Jr. in the 1978 movie 'Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze.' Ely's death comes five years after the tragic deaths of his wife and son.
