Rolls-Royce Wins £9 Billion, 8-Year Contract for UK Submarine Reactors, Boosting Jobs

Rolls-Royce has secured a £9 billion contract from the UK Ministry of Defence to design, manufacture, and support nuclear reactors for the nation's submarine fleet over the next eight years. The deal, named Unity, aims to streamline previous contracts, enhance efficiency, and save over £400 million. It will support the Royal Navy's current submarine fleet and contribute to the construction of new Dreadnought Class submarines as well as the AUKUS defense alliance projects. The contract is expected to create more than 1,000 new jobs and safeguard 4,000 existing positions in the UK, with a focus on Derby where Rolls-Royce plans to expand its Raynesway site. Defence Secretary John Healey highlighted the agreement as a demonstration of the government's commitment to national security and economic growth, emphasizing the role of defense in driving economic prosperity.
