WHO Reports 416 Infected, 31 Dead from Mysterious Illness in Congo; 10 Positive for Malaria, 92 Victims of Violence

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that a mysterious illness in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has infected 416 individuals, resulting in 31 deaths, predominantly among children. Initial tests have shown that 10 out of 12 patients tested positive for malaria, although they may also be suffering from other respiratory illnesses. The WHO is investigating the outbreak, referred to as 'Disease X' in Western media, and is collecting samples to better understand its origins. Concurrently, the United Nations has reported 92 victims of sexual violence attributed to armed groups, including the M23, highlighting ongoing security issues in the region. The situation remains critical as health officials work to identify the disease's cause and address the broader humanitarian crisis in the DRC.
