U.S. Capitol Police arrested a 33-year-old man, James McIntyre of Illinois, on Tuesday evening after he allegedly assaulted Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), a rape survivor, inside the Rayburn House Office Building. Mace, who has been vocal about protecting women in spaces such as restrooms, reported that she was physically accosted by a pro-transgender man over her stance on transgender issues. The assault resulted in injuries to her wrist and arm, requiring medical attention. Capitol Police confirmed the arrest, stating that McIntyre is facing charges for assaulting a government official. The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. Mace vowed to continue her fight, stating, "All the violence and threats keep proving our point. Women deserve to be safe. Your threats will not stop my fight for women!"
