VisitRep. Henry Cuellar and Wife Indicted on Bribery, Money Laundering Charges
May 6, 2024, 03:45 PM
Democratic Representative Henry Cuellar of Texas and his wife have been indicted on charges of conspiracy, bribery, and money laundering. The indictment, unsealed on Friday, alleges that Cuellar accepted bribes from Azerbaijani entities and a bank in Mexico City to influence U.S. legislation in favor of Azerbaijan, including delivering a pro-Azerbaijan speech in the U.S. House and attempting to block funding for land mine clearance in Nagorno-Karabakh. Despite the charges, Cuellar has vowed to continue his campaign for an 11th term. Former President Donald Trump has controversially supported Cuellar, suggesting that the indictment is politically motivated due to Cuellar's opposition to President Biden's border policies.
