VisitReddit Blocks All Search Engines but Google in $60 Million AI Deal, Effective July 1
Jul 25, 2024, 01:55 AM
Reddit has begun blocking all search engines and AI bots from indexing its content, except for Google, which has secured an exclusive deal reportedly worth $60 million annually. This move, effective from July 1, has resulted in search engines like Bing and DuckDuckGo no longer displaying recent Reddit results. The decision comes as part of Reddit's strategy to control the use of its data for AI training and to monetize access to its valuable information. Colin Hayhurst, CEO of the search engine Mojeek, criticized the move, stating that Reddit is 'killing everything for search but Google.' The update to Reddit's robots.txt file was reported by 404 Media.
