VisitReal Madrid and LaLiga Investigate Racist Abuse as Yamal Becomes Youngest El Clásico Scorer in 4-0 Win
Oct 27, 2024, 10:10 AM
Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal was subjected to racist insults during the El Clásico match against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. The 17-year-old winger was allegedly targeted by a section of home fans who directed xenophobic and racist remarks towards him, including derogatory comments such as telling him to "go to the traffic light to sell tissues." Fellow Barcelona player Alejandro Balde was also reportedly targeted. Real Madrid has officially condemned the behavior, issuing a statement expressing deep regret over the insults and announcing that the club has opened an investigation to identify the perpetrators. LaLiga has also stated that it will report the racist insults and gestures to the Hate Crime Unit of the National Police’s Intelligence Department. Yamal became the youngest player to score in El Clásico, breaking a 77-year-old record, as Barcelona won the match 4-0.
