Oct 21, 2024, 07:03 PM
Qualcomm has unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Elite, its latest flagship mobile processor, at the Snapdragon Summit 2024 in Maui. The new chip features the custom Oryon CPU, originally built for laptops, and includes faster neural processing unit (NPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU), claiming to be the world's fastest mobile CPU. Built on a 3-nanometer process, the Snapdragon 8 Elite promises significant performance and efficiency gains, with a 45% CPU boost over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The processor is designed to bring laptop-level capabilities to smartphones, enabling advanced on-device generative AI with enhanced privacy and multi-modal capabilities. Leading smartphone manufacturers, including Samsung, OnePlus, and Xiaomi, are expected to roll out devices powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite in their 2025 flagship smartphones. Qualcomm's CEO, Cristiano Amon, emphasized the company's shift towards in-house smartphone chip design and its evolution into a connected computing company for the age of AI, with Snapdragon at its core.
