VisitProsecutors Seek Maximum 20-Year Sentence for Pelicot in Mazan Rape Trial of Wife Gisèle
Nov 25, 2024, 10:09 AM
French prosecutors have requested the maximum 20-year prison sentence for Dominique Pelicot in the trial of the Mazan rapes. Pelicot is accused of drugging his wife, Gisèle Pelicot, over a period of at least ten years and facilitating her rape by dozens of men without her consent. The trial, now in its 12th week at the Avignon court, involves 51 defendants, most charged with aggravated rape. The prosecution, represented by avocats généraux Laure Chabaud and Jean-François Mayet, argues that Pelicot's actions were "abject" and aims to fundamentally change societal attitudes towards relationships between men and women.
