VisitPolish World No. 2 Iga Swiatek Accepts One-Month Ban After Positive Test for Heart Medication TMZ
Nov 28, 2024, 02:33 PM
Polish world No. 2 and five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek has accepted a one-month suspension after testing positive for the banned substance trimetazidine (TMZ), a heart medication. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced that Swiatek tested positive in an out-of-competition sample collected in August 2024. An investigation determined that the source was a contaminated regulated medication, specifically melatonin, and that Swiatek bore no significant fault or negligence for the failed test. She was provisionally suspended from September 12, missing three tournaments, and will serve the remainder of her sanction accordingly. Swiatek is a four-time Roland Garros champion and a one-time US Open winner. The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) acknowledged the ITIA's decision.
