VisitPolicy Researcher Miles Brundage Resigns from OpenAI After Six Years
Oct 23, 2024, 05:43 PM
Miles Brundage, a longtime policy researcher and Senior Advisor for AGI Readiness at OpenAI, has resigned after six years with the company. Brundage, who was also the Head of Policy Research and policy lead, announced his departure to pursue opportunities in the nonprofit sector where he believes he can have a greater impact on AI policy and safety. In his farewell blog, Brundage emphasized the importance of independence and the ability to publish freely, which he felt was limited within the corporate environment. His departure marks a significant loss for OpenAI, as he was one of the last members of the original AI safety and governance team. In his statement, Brundage highlighted the gap between capabilities in labs and what is publicly available to use.
