VisitPolice Take Down Islamic State-Linked Servers in Operation HOPPER II
Jun 14, 2024, 02:10 PM
Police across Europe and the United States have taken down a large number of servers that supported media outlets linked to the Islamic State, Europol and Eurojust announced on Friday. The international operation, known as Operation HOPPER II, involved ten European countries and targeted key assets in the online dissemination of terrorist propaganda, including those of the Islamic State, al-Qaeda, and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham. The coordinated effort, which was managed from Europol’s HQ, was part of a year-long investigation into terrorist-operated websites, culminating in a targeted referral action this week. The operation also aimed to disrupt the online propaganda activities of religious and politically motivated terrorist organizations across the ideological spectrum and shut down numerous malware droppers.
