VisitPoland to Arrest Netanyahu at 80th Auschwitz Liberation Anniversary on January 27 Due to ICC Warrant
Dec 22, 2024, 08:30 AM
Poland has confirmed that it would arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he attends the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz on January 27, in compliance with an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant issued against him in November. The warrant cites allegations of war crimes related to the conflict in Gaza. Poland's Deputy Foreign Minister Wladyslaw Bartoszewski stated that the country is obliged to respect the provisions of the ICC. The ceremony commemorates the liberation of Auschwitz, where an estimated 1 million Jews were killed during the Holocaust. Netanyahu has not yet applied to participate in the event, and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar is set to be the only representative from Israel at the anniversary.
