Peres Jepchirchir, the Olympic marathon champion, set a new women's-only world record at the London Marathon, finishing in an unofficial time of 2 hours 16 minutes and 16 seconds. Jepchirchir, who was a 16-1 underdog, outpaced competitors in the final 400m including world record holder Tigist Assefa and Joyciline Jepkosgei, who finished second and third respectively. This victory marks a significant achievement as she broke the previous record held by Mary Jepkosgei Keitany.
