VisitPentagon Stumped as Mystery 20-Foot Drones Swarm Langley Air Force Base and Naval Station Norfolk
Oct 13, 2024, 06:55 PM
For 17 consecutive days last December, a fleet of mysterious drones, approximately 20 feet in size, repeatedly breached restricted airspace over U.S. military bases in Virginia, including Langley Air Force Base and Naval Station Norfolk. The drones, flying at altitudes of around 3,000 feet and speeds of approximately 100 mph, have left Pentagon officials stumped as to their origin and intent. Despite efforts, the U.S. military has been unable to identify who is operating them or how to stop them. Similar drone activity has also been reported near sensitive sites such as the CIA headquarters in Langley and a nuclear weapons testing facility in Nevada. The incidents have revealed significant gaps in America's air defense capabilities, raising concerns about national security and the potential for foreign surveillance by adversaries such as China or Russia.
