VisitPentagon Stumped by 17-Day Drone Swarms Over Langley Air Force Base
Oct 13, 2024, 04:50 AM
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, mysterious drones have been swarming U.S. military bases, including Langley Air Force Base and Naval Station Norfolk, for 17 consecutive days. The Pentagon remains unable to identify the operators or the purpose of these drones, highlighting a significant vulnerability in America's air defense. The drones, numbering at least a dozen, are approximately 20 feet in size and fly at speeds of around 100 mph at an altitude of 3,000 feet. Current federal law restricts the military from engaging drones near bases unless they present an imminent threat; aerial surveillance does not meet this criterion. As a result, there are growing calls among lawmakers to grant the military greater authority to address such incursions.
