VisitPentagon Confirms Houthis Attacked USS Stockdale and Spruance with Missiles and Drones; Attacks Repelled
Nov 12, 2024, 06:37 PM
Yemen's Houthi movement claimed on November 12, 2024, to have conducted military operations against U.S. naval vessels, including the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea and two destroyers, the USS Stockdale and USS Spruance, in the Red Sea. The Houthis stated they targeted the vessels using drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles in operations that lasted eight hours, aiming to prevent U.S. strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen. The attacks were described as a response to perceived American-British aggression. The Pentagon confirmed that on November 11, U.S. forces repelled multiple attacks by the Houthis on the USS Stockdale and USS Spruance as they were crossing the Bab al-Mandab Strait. The attacks involved at least eight one-way attack drones, five anti-ship ballistic missiles, and three anti-ship cruise missiles. The U.S. Department of Defense reported that all missiles and drones were successfully engaged and defeated, with no damage to U.S. vessels or personnel. The incidents occur amid rising tensions in the Middle East involving Iran and its proxies, including the Houthis.
