VisitPatriots' Drake Maye Suffers Concussion After Unpenalized Hit; Brissett Replaces QB vs. Jets
Oct 27, 2024, 06:08 PM
New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye exited Sunday's game against the New York Jets after suffering a concussion in the second quarter. Maye, who had been the best player on the field before departing, sustained the injury following an unpenalized helmet-to-helmet hit by Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood during an 18-yard scramble. Despite appearing woozy, he remained in the game and finished the drive before being evaluated in the blue medical tent and then taken to the locker room. The Patriots announced that Maye was questionable to return due to a head injury, and later confirmed he had suffered a concussion and would not return. Head coach Jerod Mayo confirmed Maye's status. Veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett replaced Maye and led the team to a touchdown, bringing the Patriots to a 14-13 lead over the Jets at halftime. Maye's availability for the upcoming game against the Titans is uncertain.
