VisitPatriots' Drake Maye Returns After Head Injury; Brissett Briefly Replaces Him
Dec 28, 2024, 06:27 PM
New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye suffered a head injury during the first quarter of Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit while scrambling on third down. He was slow to get up and was evaluated in the blue medical tent before heading to the locker room for further assessment. Maye was listed as questionable to return due to the head injury, and backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett replaced him for one series. Maye had previously suffered a concussion earlier in the season against the New York Jets. Despite no penalty being called on the hit, Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo later confirmed that Maye had been cleared to return. Maye re-entered the game after returning to the sideline.
