VisitParamount Redirects Cable Network Sites to Paramount+, Discusses Potential Streaming Merger with Warner Bros. Discovery
Jul 1, 2024, 07:11 PM
Paramount Global has made a significant move to redirect users from its cable network websites, including MTV, CMT, Comedy Central, and TV Land, to its streaming platform, Paramount+. This decision has resulted in the removal of decades' worth of content, including classic clips from shows like The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and South Park. As of Wednesday, the move, which appears to be a cost-cutting measure, has drawn criticism from former show veterans and fans. Additionally, Paramount Global is reportedly in discussions with other media companies, including Warner Bros. Discovery, about a potential merger of Paramount+ with another streaming platform. Warner Bros. Discovery has expressed interest in merging its Max service with Paramount+. The unexpected shuttering of the MTV News website earlier this week was also part of this broader strategy, purging some 20 years of stories from the web.
