Pamela Hemphill, a 71-year-old woman from Boise, Idaho, who was convicted for her participation in the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot, has publicly rejected a pardon offered by President Donald Trump. Hemphill, once known as 'MAGA Granny,' served 60 days in prison and was sentenced to three years of probation along with a $500 fine after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge related to the riot. She stated that accepting the pardon would be an insult to the Capitol Police, the rule of law, and the nation. Hemphill expressed regret for her actions on that day, emphasizing that she and others involved broke the law and that there should be no pardons. She shared her views with the Idaho Statesman, BBC, and the New York Times, where she also mentioned that she no longer supports Trump or believes his claims about the 2020 election being stolen, describing her previous involvement with the 'Stop the Steal' movement as being part of a cult.
