Pakistan's Ex-PM Imran Khan Sentenced to 14 Years, Wife to 7 Years in £190 Million Corruption Case

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after being found guilty of corruption in the Al-Qadir Trust case, a land graft case involving £190 million. His wife, Bushra Bibi, was also convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison and fined PKR 0.5 million. The verdict was announced on Friday, January 17, 2025, by an accountability court that held proceedings inside Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail, where Khan has been detained since August 2023. Bushra Bibi was arrested in the courtroom following the verdict. Both Khan and his wife were found guilty of misusing power and accepting bribes from real estate tycoon Malik Riaz through the Al-Qadir Trust, a charitable organization they established. Khan was also fined PKR 1 million. The case centers on allegations that they accepted land and funds in exchange for providing relief in a corruption case involving Malik Riaz. The conviction marks a significant legal setback for Khan, who faces multiple legal challenges since his ousting in 2023. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, founded by Khan, has condemned the verdict, calling it politically motivated.
