VisitPakistan Eases Immigration Controls, Reopens Chaman Border After 340 Days
Jul 22, 2024, 07:29 AM
Pakistan has agreed to ease immigration controls at the Durand Line following a ten-month sit-in and protests in Chaman, which began in October 2023. The Friendship Gate at the Chaman border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Balochistan has been reopened after a 340-day closure. Initially, only residents of the borderline districts, Chaman (Pakistan) and Spin Boldak (Afghanistan), are allowed to cross. Transit vehicles for and from Afghanistan and beyond have also been permitted to cross the border. The decision to restore the old procedure comes after the demands of the Chaman protesters were accepted. Border security officials of both countries offered dua before opening the gate.
