San Diego Padres shortstop Tucupita Marcano is under investigation by Major League Baseball for violating the sport's gambling policy. Marcano, who allegedly bet on games involving the Pittsburgh Pirates when he was with the organization and on the injured list, faces a potential lifetime ban. Marcano has played parts of three seasons in MLB. The investigation, which is not yet complete, could result in imminent penalties. Additionally, at least four other players are also under investigation for betting on baseball while in the minor leagues, and they too could face disciplinary actions.
