VisitOttawa to Donate Up to 200,000 Mpox Vaccine Doses to Africa
Sep 12, 2024, 02:48 AM
Canada has announced plans to donate up to 200,000 doses of the mpox vaccine to help combat the outbreak in several African nations, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, and Uganda. The World Health Organization declared mpox a global health emergency last month, marking the second time in two years. Medical staff in the Democratic Republic of Congo have reported a desperate need for vaccines as mpox has killed at least 635 people in the country this year. Rich nations have millions of mpox vaccine doses, but donations so far have fallen short of what is needed to curb the outbreak in Africa. Ottawa confirmed the donation plans on Wednesday.
