VisitOregon DMV Mistakenly Registers Over 300 Non-Citizens to Vote Since 2021 Due to Data Entry Error
Sep 14, 2024, 04:33 PM
Oregon officials have acknowledged that the state's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) mistakenly registered more than 300 non-citizens to vote since 2021. The error occurred due to the miskeying of foreign birth certificates and passports as U.S. documents that prove citizenship. The DMV has implemented new safeguards and is currently reviewing other records to prevent further mistakes. The issue has been attributed to a data entry error in the auto voter registration system, and an audit is ongoing to identify any additional illegal registrations. Kevin Glenn, spokesperson for the Oregon Department of Transportation, stated that every registered voter is sent ballots by mail. The Oregon Secretary of State's Office is updating the voter registrations of these individuals to correct the mistake.
