VisitOpenAI's 'Orion', 100x GPT-4, Reportedly Launching in December; CEO Denies Reports
Oct 25, 2024, 11:25 AM
According to a report by The Verge, OpenAI plans to launch its next major AI model, codenamed 'Orion', by December, around the two-year anniversary of ChatGPT. The model is anticipated to be up to 100 times more powerful than GPT-4 and is considered internally as the successor to GPT-4, though it is unclear if it will be called GPT-5 externally. Microsoft, OpenAI's primary partner for deploying AI models, is preparing to host 'Orion' on its Azure platform as early as November. Unlike previous releases, 'Orion' will not initially be available through ChatGPT; instead, OpenAI intends to grant early access to select partner companies to develop new products and features. However, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has refuted these reports, referring to them as "fake news out of control." OpenAI spokesperson Niko Felix stated that the company does not have plans to release a model code-named 'Orion' this year but plans to release other significant technology advancements. The conflicting reports have sparked discussions about OpenAI's future plans and the potential impact of 'Orion' on the AI industry.
