VisitOpenAI's ChatGPT Mac App (Beta) Integrates with VS Code, Xcode, Terminal for Plus Users
Nov 14, 2024, 06:34 PM
OpenAI has announced an update to its ChatGPT desktop app for macOS, introducing the AI assistant's ability to interact with several developer-focused applications. In this early beta release for Plus and Team users, ChatGPT can—with user permission—understand, read from, and write to common development tools such as Visual Studio Code, Xcode, Terminal, iTerm2, and TextEdit. The integration allows the assistant to access code and terminal sessions, providing context-aware assistance without requiring users to copy and paste between applications. A Visual Studio Code extension is also available, enabling ChatGPT to access editor context more reliably, including selected parts of code. The feature leverages Apple's Accessibility API and represents a step towards making ChatGPT a contextual assistant across desktop environments. Users can access this capability by updating the app and enabling the feature in settings. OpenAI plans to expand support to additional applications in the future.
