VisitOpenAI Restructures for $150 Billion Valuation in 2025, Aims for Largest $6.5 Billion VC Round
Sep 19, 2024, 10:09 PM
OpenAI is reportedly restructuring its corporate structure to facilitate a significant fundraising round. The company aims to raise $6.5 billion at a pre-money valuation of $150 billion. This shift involves moving closer to a traditional for-profit model, potentially removing the profit cap for investors. According to CEO Sam Altman, this restructuring is key to achieving the $150 billion valuation as the AI leader veers down a profit-seeking path in 2025. Thrive Capital is leading the round with a $1.25 billion investment. The funding round has been oversubscribed by billions of dollars, indicating high investor interest. OpenAI will notify prospective investors on Friday whether they have been accepted into the round. The minimum investment required for participation is $250 million. Major tech companies like Microsoft, Nvidia, and Apple are also in talks to invest, contributing approximately $2-3 billion combined. This would be the largest venture capital round of all time, surpassing the $6 billion raised earlier this year by Elon Musk's xAI.
