OpenAI Launches Operator, $200/Month AI Agent Automating Web Tasks for US Pro Users
Jan 23, 2025, 09:10 PM
On January 23, 2025, OpenAI launched Operator, a new AI agent that can autonomously perform tasks on the web for users. Operator can use its own browser to interact with websites by typing, clicking, and scrolling, enabling it to automate complex tasks such as booking travel accommodations, making restaurant reservations, ordering groceries, filing expense reports, and shopping online. The tool is currently available as a research preview for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the United States, who pay $200 per month. Operator is built on a new model called Computer-Using Agent (CUA), which combines GPT-4o's vision capabilities with advanced reasoning skills and chain-of-thought processing. The agent operates with human-in-the-loop oversight, allowing users to take control when needed and ensuring safety and alignment. OpenAI has partnered with companies such as Instacart, Booking.com, OpenTable, Uber, eBay, Etsy, Reuters, AP, and StubHub to enhance Operator's functionality. OpenAI plans to expand access to Operator to other users and regions in the future.
