OpenAI Forms Safety Committee, Begins Training GPT-5 Successor

OpenAI has announced the formation of a new Safety and Security Committee, which will be responsible for making recommendations on critical safety and security decisions for all OpenAI projects. The committee will be led by board members Bret Taylor, Adam D'Angelo, Nicole Seligman, and CEO Sam Altman. This move comes as OpenAI begins training its next frontier AI model, which is expected to surpass the capabilities of the current GPT-4 technology. The training process for the new model could take nine months or more. OpenAI aims to advance its path to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) while ensuring top security and safety standards. The committee will deliver recommendations within 90 days.
