VisitOntario's $73 Million Speeds Up Gardiner Expressway Rebuild, Four Months Ahead, Ready for 2026 World Cup
Oct 10, 2024, 02:28 PM
The Ontario government has invested $73 million to accelerate the reconstruction of Toronto's Gardiner Expressway, moving the project months ahead of schedule. The accelerated work is already four months ahead, with completion expected over a year earlier than planned. Mayor Olivia Chow and Ontario Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria visited the construction site to observe the 24/7 work and meet with some of the workers. "We're seeing the success of the accelerated work on the Gardiner," said Mayor Chow. The Gardiner Expressway will be fully open during Toronto's hosting of the FIFA World Cup in May 2026. The project aims to reduce gridlock and provide Ontarians with the transit infrastructure needed to get drivers from across the Greater Toronto Area out of congestion and to their destinations faster.
